Planning

One of the ways in which Cancer Care Ontario continually improves cancer services is by planning for cancer services to meet current and future patient needs, and working with healthcare providers in every Local Health Integration Network to continually improve cancer care for the people they serve.

Cancer Care Ontario’s Planning and Regional Programs Portfolio is responsible for long-term planning of the cancer system. The Ontario Cancer Plan is Cancer Care Ontario’s chief planning initiative. It is a 4-year roadmap for Cancer Care Ontario, the Ontario government, healthcare providers and all those involved in cancer prevention and care will work together to improve the cancer system. It identifies the most important areas of focus needed to reduce the number of people diagnosed with cancer and to improve patient care.

In addition to developing this plan, Cancer Care Ontario conducts capacity planning including projecting the demand for cancer services across the province and identifying the number of additional health human resources required for specific oncology specialties.
